Life is expressed in motion. Every organ, tissue and cell has a rhythmic movement. Where there is restriction, there is illness. With BCST, we work with health and its expression in the body.
Beneath the better-known cardiac and respiratory rhythms in the body is the subtle craniosacral rhythm discovered by osteopath Dr William Sutherland over 100 years ago. The craniosacral system bathes the brain and spinal cord with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) at a steady rate to keep the nervous system nourished and stable. Using light, negotiated touch, a practitioner palpates restrictions or changes in the rhythm and then helps reorient the whole body to its natural flow and health.
The reason for BCST's effectiveness is the power of the quality of the touch. We use open, non-judgemental, empathetic touch to listen to the body as a counsellor would in talk therapy. Along with understanding embryology, anatomy and physiology, we acknowledge the body's inherent capacity for self-regulation and restoration. From this perspective, we gently bring the body to a place of safety and wholeness as it slowly releases blocks, patterns, stress and trauma. The nervous system down-regulates, restoring balance and building resilience.
